The growth of the digital economy is generating exponential change in the business world resulting in widespread disruption and significant and complex challenges for industry incumbents. At the same time, it is creating enormous opportunities for dynamic and future-focused organisations that are able to harness digital innovations.

The MBS Melbourne Alumni Chapter and our colleagues from NAB invite you to a special co-hosted event at The Academy at NAB on the topic ‘Strategy in the Digital Economy -
What is happening and what do we know'?.

The event will feature Geoff Lewis, Professorial Fellow, Strategy from Melbourne Business School.

During this enlightening and thought provoking presentation, Geoff will discuss the key aspects of strategy in the digital economy and explore emerging trends now and into the future.

A Q&A session will conclude the formal part of the evening, followed by networking drinks and canapés afterwards.

Geoff graduated as a metallurgist and then spent nine years in the Australian metals industry in the areas of research, production engineering, and corporate planning. After completing a PhD at the London Business School, he joined the faculty at the International Management Institute – Geneva. Three years later, he returned to Australia and joined the faculty of Melbourne Business School. In 1988 Geoff joined the faculty at the Darden School, The University of Virginia, where he taught Strategic Management and Leadership, the only required course in the second year of the MBA program. In 1992, he returned to Australia and now resides in Adelaide. Geoff returned to the Darden School as a Visiting Professor during 2000-2002.

Geoff teaches Business Strategy and Corporate Strategy courses on the MBA program at Melbourne Business School. In 2004 and again in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 he was awarded a Teaching Excellence Award by the graduating MBA class. During his academic career his research activities have spanned the areas of strategy and change, including the economic consequences of the corporate strategies pursued by Australian firms, including international diversification. More recently his research has focused on the wine industry, covering both strategic analysis and behavioural economics.

Geoff has worked extensively as a consultant to corporations in Australia and Asia in the areas of strategy and the management of change. He has conducted strategic reviews for a wide range of major companies, including Mars Inc. (Asia Pacific), “The Age” Newspaper, McPherson’s Consumer Products Division (New York and Melbourne), Foster’s Brewing Group (Australia, Canada, UK), Pacific Dunlop, BHP, IOOF Australia Group, Elders Ltd., Adelaide Brighton Limited, Coles Myer, National Australia Bank, Santos, CBA (Institutional Banking), Amrad, OCBC Bank (Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and China) and Wesfarmers.

Geoff's formal qualifications are: B. Applied Science (Adelaide University), MBA (University of Melbourne), PhD (London University).

Geoff’s major interest outside family and work is a 40-hectare vineyard in the Clare Valley, South Australia (wattlefarm.com). Parcels of his Shiraz grapes were chosen for inclusion in the 2014, 2015, and 2016 Penfolds Grange.
